Botanicals

On our 20th wedding anniversary, my husband and I flew out to Colorado. I was in awe of the abundant native botanicals, mostly wildflowers, flourishing there, not just on the trails but in private and public gardens as well. I felt like an explorer, taking photos of the tiniest buds and identifying them. Back home, I became acutely aware of how few natives are visible in Alabama. Most of what surrounds our homes is commercially specialized, and non-native invasives are taking over local nature trails. I love a trip to the garden center, but this awareness will materialize in my collection of botanicals, both in my home garden and studio.
